Is Rabbit’s Foot Fern Toxic to Dogs?
Also known as: Hare’s Foot Fern, Lacy Paw Fern, Davallia fejeensis · Davallia fejeensis
What to do if your dog eats it
Nothing required. Only large amounts of chewed fronds could cause mild mechanical stomach upset.
Common questions
My dog yanked the furry rhizomes off the pot — is that a health issue?
No toxicity is involved. Replant the rhizomes shallowly — they root along the surface — and move the pot somewhere the dog cannot dig again.
Are all Davallia species safe for dogs?
The commonly grown Davallia rabbit’s and hare’s foot ferns are non-toxic, and most true ferns are as well. The exceptions to remember are asparagus fern and any “fern” that is really a cycad.
